cat haiku

Posted by debbie on 23rd March 2007

kitt1.gifMy cats would hate this poem. It’s not dignified enough and way too funny.

Some of my favorite lines:

The rule for today:
Touch my tail, I shred your hand.

New rule tomorrow.

And:

You’re always typing.
Well, let’s see you ignore my

sitting on your hands.

See more here.

nevashut pringles flash game

Posted by debbie on 23rd March 2007

link to nevashut flash game

Nevashut is a funny, if not totally politically correct, game featuring everyone’s favorite potato chips - Pringles. Actually, although this game was obviously made to sell more chips, the real star of the game is Sanjeev, owner of the Nevashut gas station. Get it, Neva Shut?

Anyway, your object is to win all 5 flavors of Pringles by talking to Sanjeev and making him happy. You don’t need to say anything complicated, just ask him to do something, or compliment him. Get all five to win the game, although the real-life contest is over.

Sanjeev has some funny reactions to what you tell him. He also has some great lines if you say something silly or don’t say anything at all. The best, I think is when he dances to music. Tell him to “dance” and watch what happens.

It’s a fun way to pass the time. Can you win all 5 cans, including the extra-special onion one? Click here to find out.

wild west wendy - old-time action bartending

Posted by debbie on 23rd February 2007

Image of Wild West Wendy arcade and puzzle gameWild West Wendy follows in the tradition of Diner Dash, but this time you’re in the rowdy, rough wild west. Help Wendy tend bar, break up fights, and shoot robbers. It’s an exciting game, and the challenges just keep getting better and better.

In the game, you start off as a bartender serving beers, but you eventually end up running a fancy saloon! There are 45 levels in all. You can play in 3 modes - Story, Campaign, and Timed Attack. You can also choose to play 3 different levels - Easy, Medium and Hard. One of the best twists is that you can choose to play 3-minute or 10-minute rounds - change them depending on how much time you have.

There’s a lot going on in the story mode of this game. Wendy has to return lost cows, find out if the the town’s undertaker is a vampire, and discover whether another guy is a ghost. All of this while fighting against an evil competitor saloon owner who’s part of Wendy’s traumatic past.

One of the funniest parts of the game is that between rounds, you get to read the Mystery Epitaph, a truly funny newspaper that blends commentary on yesteryear (”Sending Morse Signals”, for instance) with commentary on today (the townsfolk complain that the kids are SMSing way too much). Very clever!

Besides the gameplay, the other elements of this game are great. The images are fun (and funny) and the cut-scene cartoons are top-notch. The music is pretty good - I didn’t get annoyed with it like I have in other games.

Mystery Studio Games (the makers of Wild West Wendy) have done a great job of adding touches to improve the “serve the customers” game. Click here to play a free hour-long trial or download the game for only $19.95.

Five hilarious songs by Hugh Laurie (and Stephen Fry)

Posted by debbie on 19th January 2007

Image of five songs from Fry and LaurieBefore he became famous for House, Hugh Laurie did a lot of English sketch comedy. Along with Blackadder, which I love, he also did “A Bit of Fry and Laurie.” Here are clips of five songs that crack me up every time. Who knew House could sing? Enjoy!

paparazzi picture hunt game

Posted by debbie on 19th January 2007

Image of Paparazzi hidden picture gamePaparazzi is a game that combines all my guilty pleasures into one entertaining mix. Take my favorite type of game (finding hidden clues in pictures), add in some tongue-in-cheek tabloid gossip, and mix well. You’re a photographer moving up in the world, and taking pictures of some of the hottest stories ever. The pregnant star, the singer who lip-synchs, Bigfoot, they’re all money-making photo opps. Build your reputation (and earn lots of money) as a hotshot, dirt-digging tabloid photo-journalist through 10 juicy assignments.

Along with your helpful guide, you go all over town trying to snap pictures of the rumors your editor gives you. If you win the round, there are also bonus-making mini-games. One is to find the differences between two pictures. The other is to use your quick reflexes to catch a subject in the act.

The game aims to be a cross between the Mystery Case Files and the 5-Spot games. It mostly succeeds, with fun music and clever twists. There are only two main drawbacks. In some of the pictures, the clues you’re looking for are a little fuzzy. And, with only 10 assignments, the game is a little long.

But overall, for an I Spy type of game, this one delivers. Click here for a free 1-hour trial to see whether you’d make a good paparazzi.
