FIzzball by Grubby Games is a cute game that combines animals, bubbles and breakout-style gameplay for a totally addicting experience. In the game, you help Professor FIzzwizzle rescue animals from different islands. You use his invention of a bubble that you shoot and then keep afloat.
Here’s where the game gets interesting. Besides breaking up stuff, the bubble also picks up the animals. You start off by picking up smaller things (like apples or coconuts) and then you start to pick up the smaller animals, and finally, you move onto the bigger ones. So, as you go along, the bubble gets bigger and bigger (and slower) and it becomes crammed with all the animals that you are rescuing. When you’ve picked up all of the animals, you move on to the next island.
The game is really well made, with a variety of animals and scenes. There are lots of obstacles like fences, trees and barrels. There are also environmental obstacles - when it rains, the thunder shakes the game, making it hard to see the bubble. There are also mini-games, like rescuing as many monkeys as possible, or breaking down as many obstacles in a short amount of time.
There are two different levels - regular and kid. The regular level limits the number of bubbles you can use. The kid’s version has no limit on bubbles, and includes cute animal quizzes between rounds. In both levels, you win tropihies (for things like completing levels or collecting major money) and you also get to visit the animals you’ve rescued in the Animal Sanctuary. There is also a small mystery to solve as you finish levels: where did the people go and why?
As I said before, the graphics are first-rate. There are a variety of animals to rescue, from frogs, to camels, to pandas. The music is bouncy, but a little annoying after a while. The animal sounds, on the other hand, are cute. If you bump into animals that you can’t pick up, they show their annoyance by mooing or barking or squawking at you.
The free demo isn’t limited by time, and lets you explore about 50 levels - in the $19.95 full version, there are over 180 levels. Try it out by downloading it here.

Plastic Martians is a twist on the familiar breakout game. Only this time, the gamespace is a circle and you’re literally trying to keep the ball from going down the drain. You control the paddle (which moves around a hole in the middle of the game circle) using your mouse. Balls randomly appear, and you must keep them bouncing and hitting the edge of the circle. Fruits, bombs, and other items give you extra points, lives, powerups, etc. You start off with 6 balls, and there are multiple levels. Very addictive.

Just in time for Halloween comes The Dracula Twins, an animated side-scrolling action game that’s fun for kids, but that also kept me amused for an hour. It’s a very well-animated adventure, with a simple interface. I don’t generally like side-scrollers, but this one had enough twists and turns (and was easy enough) to keep me hooked.
The backstory is that an evil vampire-hunter has taken Count Dracula. His twin children, Drac and Dracana set out to rescue him. Along the way, they encounter many obstacles, and need to resort to using their whip, magic spells, and many other tricks. The obstacles include giant monsters, trick bridges, and swinging axes. Lots of cool dangers to avoid.
The free demo is an hour long, and gives you a taste for the levels (40 in all) that you’ll be facing. Unfortunately, you can only play as Drac in the demo, but other than that slght flaw, it was a good game for the Halloween time of year!
